How to Choose the Right LED Screen Size for Your Event

Choosing the right LED screen can make or break the guest experience. Too small, and people at the back strain to see. Too big for the space, and the screen overwhelms the stage. Here is how to pick the right size for your event — without needing to be a technician.
1. Start with your viewing distance
The most important question is: how far is your last row from the stage? The further away your audience sits, the larger the screen needs to be for slides, videos and faces to stay readable.
Viewing distance also affects the type of LED panel. Screens are made of tiny LEDs spaced a certain distance apart (called pixel pitch). A common rule of thumb is that the closest comfortable viewing distance in metres is roughly the pixel pitch in millimetres — so finer screens suit close-up audiences, while larger pitches suit big halls and outdoor fields.
2. Think about guest count and venue shape
A long, narrow hall needs a bigger central screen — or extra side screens — so guests near the back can see. Wide ballrooms often work best with a central LED wall plus two side screens. Outdoor events with large crowds usually need the biggest screens of all.
3. Indoor or outdoor?
Outdoor LED screens are brighter so they stay visible in daylight, and they are built to handle the elements. Indoor screens are designed for closer viewing and controlled lighting. Read our guide to indoor vs outdoor LED screens for more detail.
4. Match the screen to your content
- Presentations and slides: text must be readable from the back, so size up rather than down.
- Videos and live camera feeds: a 16:9 screen shape avoids black bars.
- Stage backdrops and concerts: wide, custom-shaped LED walls create a dramatic look.
5. Plan the stage and structure
Large screens need a safe structure — ground support or truss to hang them. Make sure the stage and venue ceiling height can accommodate the screen you want.
Quick guide by event type

| Wedding reception | One large central screen, or two side screens |
