Indoor vs Outdoor LED Screens: Which Does Your Event Need?

LED screen event setup

Planning an event with an LED screen? One of the first decisions is whether you need an indoor or an outdoor screen. They might look similar, but they are built for very different conditions.

Brightness

Outdoor LED screens are much brighter so images stay visible even in direct sunlight. Indoor screens are designed for controlled lighting — using an outdoor screen indoors can feel too harsh at close range, while an indoor screen outdoors in daylight can look washed out.

Weather protection

Outdoor screens are built to handle heat, dust and rain. Indoor screens are not designed for exposure to the elements. For open-air events, we also plan covers, roofing and safe cable routing.

Viewing distance and sharpness

Indoor audiences usually sit closer to the screen, so indoor panels tend to have LEDs packed more closely together for a sharper image up close. Outdoor audiences are usually further away, so outdoor panels are optimised for brightness and long-distance viewing.

Structure and setup

Outdoor screens often need stronger ground support or truss structures, and sometimes a stage with roofing. Indoor screens may need less structure but must fit within the venue’s ceiling height and access routes.

Quick checklist

  • Choose indoor for hotels, halls, churches, conference rooms and evening events under cover.
  • Choose outdoor for open fields, beach events, outdoor concerts, rallies and daytime events in the open.
  • Not sure? Covered outdoor spaces like canopies and marquees can go either way — ask us.
